Public intoxication 647?

I Recently got arrested for public intoxication in the city of pasadena ca. I got finger printed and booked. On the booking papers it stated what I got arrested for. When i asked the Jailer if I was getting a citation he told me no. I only left the jail with the booking papers and my belongings...... So i have 3 Question. 1) why did i get Booked? 2) Is this going to be on my recored if i didn't get a citation? 3) can there be a possablitly that i did get a citation with out knowing and its just coming thur the mail?
