Why do some people just come on here to be horrible to others?

Majority of them have a horrible personal life and mostly loners. The only attention that they can get is through posting hurtful words on internet forums like Yahoo Answers. The best way to handle them is to use all IGNORE, BLOCK or REPORT buttons instead of giving them a luxury to respond. Hope it helps.
